Spotlight Athlete 9/15

Athlete of the Week: Clark Keehn
Clark Keehn has helped the golf team get off to a perfect start while making his own mark in the school record book.
Keehn, the third man on the golf team, has been a key contributor to the team’s impressive start to the season. The team has opened the year with a 6-0 record in the NWC, while Keehn recently tied the school’s 9-hole record.
For Keehn, the success is a reflection of the work he has put into improving his game. His strongest part of his game is his driving, which gives him confidence and puts him in a good position to attack each hole.
While Keehn has already accomplished a lot this season, he has even bigger goals ahead. As a team, the goal is to make it to state. Individually, Keehn hopes to earn First Team All-Conference honors in the NWC.
One of Keehn’s favorite memories in his golf career came when the team made history by winning sectionals for the first time in school history.
Keehn also credits advice he has received for helping him become a better golfer. One lesson that has stuck with him is to avoid big mistakes. In a sport where one poor decision can quickly add strokes to a score, Keehn has learned the importance of staying patient and playing smart.
His journey to becoming one of the team’s top golfers has not always been easy. Keehn says his biggest obstacle was his freshman season, when he struggled significantly on the course.
“I was terrible,” Keehn said of his freshman season.
Instead of allowing that difficult season to define him, Keehn used it as motivation to improve. His progress since then has been evident, culminating in his recent record-tying performance and his role on an undefeated team.
With the team chasing a trip to state and Keehn pursuing First Team All-Conference honors, he will look to continue building on his strong start and helping his teammates make more history.
And for those who may not know, there is one interesting fact about Keehn: he was born two weeks early.
Congratulations to Clark Keehn, our Spotlight Athlete of the Week!
Spotlight Athlete of the Week: Saige Benroth
This week’s Spotlight Athlete of the Week is Saige Benroth, a standout volleyball player who continues to make an impact on the court.
Saige has already made her mark in the record books, setting the school record for most career digs—and she’s still counting! As the team’s libero, Saige plays a key role in the team’s defense and also steps in as a setter when needed. Her strongest skills are passing and serving, making her a valuable all-around contributor.
Her goal for the season is to help lead the volleyball team to a winning season. One of her favorite volleyball memories came last year when the team battled back to earn a reverse sweep against Ottoville, creating a moment she won’t soon forget.
Saige has also shown tremendous determination through adversity. After undergoing foot surgery over the summer, she faced the challenge of recovering and getting back on the court. Her mindset throughout the process was shaped by one piece of advice that has stuck with her: “Get comfortable being uncomfortable.”
That mentality has helped Saige push through difficult moments and continue competing at a high level.
And finally, a fun fact about Saige: she has 205 bones!
Congratulations to Saige Benroth, our Spotlight Athlete of the Week!
