Spotlight Athlete of the Week 10/24

Athlete Spotlight: Jarrod Holland
This week’s athlete spotlight shines on Jarrod Holland, a dedicated member of the football team who plays defensive end. Jarrod has been playing football since third grade, and his passion for the game shows both on and off the field. One of his standout performances came against LCC, where he recorded two sacks and a blocked PAT.
In addition to football, Jarrod also competes in track, showing his versatility as an athlete. He says football has made him stronger mentally and physically while giving him a second family through his teammates. Jarrod’s personal goals this season include racking up multiple sacks and tackles against Bluffton and helping his team achieve their ultimate goal — a trip to state.
A fun fact about Jarrod is that he can do a backflip on the ground! After graduation, he plans to attend college and continue competing in track.
Athlete Spotlight: Hailey Mertz
This week’s athlete spotlight features Hailey Mertz, a talented outside hitter on the volleyball team. Hailey has been playing volleyball since 5th grade, and her dedication and leadership shine both on and off the court.
In addition to volleyball, Hailey is involved in track, Leo Club, and student council, showing her commitment to staying active and engaged in school life. Her favorite part about playing volleyball is growing closer with the underclassmen and building a stronger bond with her team.
Hailey’s personal goal is to be a leader and role model for younger players, while her team goal is to win a district title. A fun fact about Hailey is that throughout her volleyball career, she has played every position on the court!
