Spotlight Athlete: Jakob Leininger
This week’s athlete spotlight shines on Jakob Leininger, a dedicated and hardworking member of the football team. Jakob has been playing football for an impressive nine years, and his passion for the game shows both on and off the field. He plays left offensive tackle and defensive tackle, key positions that require strength, focus, and leadership.
In addition to football, Jakob is a multi-sport athlete who also participates in basketball and track, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to athletics. When asked what he loves most about football, Jakob shared, “The tradition and being able to play for others.” That team-first mindset has been a driving force throughout his athletic career.
Jakob has big goals for himself and his team this season — aiming to win the NWC and make it to state. Personally, he hopes to build on his hard work to create a successful future, both on and off the field.
A fun fact about Jakob: he learned sign language from his little sister, showing his caring and family-oriented nature.
As a senior, Jakob plans to work in construction after graduation — a career path that reflects the same dedication and strong work ethic he brings to the football field.

Spotlight Athlete: Saige Benroth
This week’s athlete spotlight highlights Saige Benroth, a dedicated and talented member of the Columbus Grove volleyball team. Saige plays the crucial role of libero, where her quick reflexes, sharp instincts, and defensive skills keep the Bulldogs strong on the court.
Saige has been playing volleyball since fifth grade, and her years of commitment and hard work have paid off in big ways. She recently set the school record for career digs and earned Honorable Mention honors in both the NWC and PCL, showcasing her consistency and leadership in one of the toughest positions in the game.
In addition to volleyball, Saige is a well-rounded student-athlete who also participates in basketball, softball, Leo Club, and serves as class vice president. Her involvement across sports and activities reflects her drive, teamwork, and positive energy both on and off the court.
When asked what she enjoys most about volleyball, Saige didn’t hesitate — it’s her team. The bond she shares with her teammates is what motivates her to keep pushing and improving every day.
Looking ahead, Saige’s goal for the team is clear: win districts. With her determination, leadership, and love for the game, there’s no doubt she’ll continue to make a lasting impact on Columbus Grove volleyball.
