Spotlight Athlete: Braylon Best
Columbus Grove senior Braylon Best has become a major contributor to the Bulldogs’ cross country success. Known for his work ethic and consistency, Braylon has continued to cut down his times each season. At the 2025 Columbus Grove Invitational, he posted an impressive 16:39.7 in the 5K, placing 14th in a competitive varsity field. His steady improvement has helped keep Columbus Grove among the top programs in the region.
Braylon was also part of the historic 2023 state championship team, stepping up as the squad’s seventh runner at the OHSAA state meet. In addition to cross country, he competes in track, where his endurance and drive make him a reliable runner in distance events.
Braylon continues to push himself and those around him. With the rest of the season ahead, he’s aiming to lower his times even more and help his team make another run at postseason success.
Spotlight Athlete: Lillian Montgomery
Columbus Grove senior Lillian Montgomery has been making a name for herself on the Bulldogs’ cross country team since her freshman year. Known for her dedication and strong work ethic, Lillian has consistently improved her performance, recently running a 20-flat at the Grove Invite, which moved her up on the school’s record board.
Off the course, she stays busy with track, concert choir, and National Honor Society, balancing academics and extracurriculars while maintaining her competitive edge in cross country. Lillian says her favorite part of the sport is “reaping the reward for being dedicated”, and her times show the payoff of her hard work.
Looking ahead, Lillian’s personal goals are ambitious: she hopes to sign with a Division II school, break into the 19-minute range, and stay healthy throughout the remainder of the season. For the team, she’s aiming to dominate the NWC, beat Lincolnview in upcoming meets, and qualify for State. Her drive, leadership, and determination make her a key contributor to the Bulldogs’ success—and a well-deserved spotlight athlete.
